Oh My! I made a smoothie that knocked my own socks off today. I knew that I just had to share the recipe with my friends. And it was a PINK smoothie to boot (not planned), perfectly divine for sharing with a Valentine! Check out the picture above.
My Smoothie Inspiration
I’ve been making smoothies inspired by Dr. Hyman’s book The 10-Day Detox Diet since last April. I’ve easily made over 6o smoothies since then and I’m really finding my groove now. I’ve tried all 5 of the smoothie recipes he has in the book but I’ve come up with my favorite mix of all of them. My morning smoothie is a variation on my favorite smoothie theme.
Pink Smoothie Recipe
Note: At least a half hour ahead or the night before soak the following nuts in water: 2 T of almonds, 2 T of pumpkin seeds, 2 T of walnuts, 2 brazil nuts. (I use whatever I have on hand, some times all of them, some times 2-3 of them.) Then drain the nuts.
2 servings
~Soaked and prepped nuts (see note above)
~1 cup frozen strawberries
~1 banana
~1/2 cup almond milk
~1/2 cup water
~1 T flax seeds
~1 T coconut oil
~1 inch piece of lemon, squeeze juice into smoothie & add cut up rind pieces
~1/2 inch piece ginger sliced
Oops, you’ll see that there’s Trader Joe’s Organic Soy Beverage in the picture of ingredients. I ran out of almond milk and had soy milk on hand. I alternate using almond, coconut or soy milk in my smoothies. I also alternate many of the above ingredients like adding frozen mixed berries or adding in chia seeds too. Have fun with the recipe. But I can guarantee that this one is a winner!
